Rainscreen Technology
The Enemy Within The Walls — Mould & Mildew
As your exterior walls attempt to protect the inside of your building from rain, wind and snow, an element which is overlooked is the impact of temperature and humidity. In our climate, conditions within your building vary drastically from those outside. These temperature and pressure differentials have damaging results.
Humidity
When humidity differs from the inside to the outside of a building, water vapour from higher concentration areas will migrate to low concentration areas. When the pressure within the wall cavity is lower than the external pressure, water vapour is drawn through permeable wall materials and voids which occur wherever the vapour barrier is interrupted by windows, outlets and other interfaces.
Condensation
When temperatures within the building differ from that of the outside, a temperature gradient through the wall is formed. If enough water vapour is present, this shift in temperature allows the air to reach its moisture saturation point, causing condensation to form within your wall cavity.
The Underlining Effect
Viceroy’s Rainscreen technology recognizes the fact that moisture is a natural occurrence within the wall cavity. Without this technology moisture becomes trapped in your wall cavity, causing premature structural deterioration, mould and mildew formation, reduced insulation values and eventually damaging your interior finishes.
