Our History
Building Quality Homes Since 1955
Since 1955 when Gaylord Lindal started Viceroy Homes, the goal has always remained the same. That goal being to provide the world with superior building methods and products. Viceroy is the pioneer of many technologies that the construction world uses daily. Viceroy’s patent on parallel cord trusses to build high cathedral ceilings is a great example of this. Another is the introduction of rainscreen technology which allows an exterior wall to breath behind the veneer siding. Viceroy’s dedication to expediting the construction time is evident in their dedication to panelizing homes many decades before it became a necessity due to a lack of skilled trades. Although Viceroy’s designs are known for their open spaces, large volume rooms, high ceilings, large panoramic window settings and beautiful rooflines the drawings used to construct these same homes are presented with a simplicity that conveys the structural assembly without congesting the framing / construction drawings with drywall and finish details. Builders have grown to love this style of designing as it expedites the construction by focusing on the structure. Our dedication to advancing building technologies and methods will never waiver and continues to be the strength of the Viceroy Homes brand.
75 years ago, the focus was on the cottage market and although that still makes up a significant portion of our business, Viceroy has expanded to service many additional markets such as hotels, more contemporary city homes, and any new project using wood frame construction. What Gaylord Lindal started in 1955 in Ontario, Canada has now provided over 70,000 new homes to 35 countries around the world.
